A Fun Way to Fix Up An Old Picture Frame

Do you have a bunch of old picture frames sitting around your house that you no longer have pictures for? Well today I’m going to show you how to make those frames into beautiful decorations for your home. First you are going to cut a piece of card stock to fit the frame you want to use. Next comes of the fun part! You get to decorate your card stock any way you want. For my mine I wrote “Hello Summer” with glitter glue and letters cut out of decorative paper. I then painted the background with blue metallic paint and decorated the rest with glitter paper, mini craft gems and decorative stickers. But you can decorate with anything you want: paint, colored pencils, oil pastels, chalk, markers, stickers, decorative paper, pieces of fabric, stencils, rubber stamps, tissue paper, felt or doilies. Just make sure whatever you use is flat so card stock will fit into the frame. Once your card stock is fully decorated to your preference let it dry before adding to the frame. This is an important step because wet paint or glue could easily ruin the frame. After your artwork is dry add it to your frame and display it in your house. I displayed mine on my dresser surrounded by sea shells but you can hang yours on a wall or display it anyway you like. You can also create multiple pictures and change them out every few months. Since my frame is just white I plan to make a different picture for every season and certain holidays and just change them out when needed.

Hope you enjoy adding a little pizzazz to your old frame.

Creatively yours,

Colleen

Christmas Version of Galaxy Painting

Here is a Christmas themed version of galaxy painting (see earlier posts)  that I did over the weekend. First I cut a piece of white paper into thick strips. Then I wrote my friends’ names on each strip in either green or red paint. The trick to this step is to take your time and form the letters slowly or else you won’t be able to read them. Next I took the opposite paint color and painted dots in the letters to make them look like wreaths. Again this step should not be done too quickly. I then took a Q tip, dipped it in various shades of light blue paint and dabbed it around the letters to create snowflakes. After I finished painting I let it all dry overnight. The next day I took some red construction paper and cut into strips slightly bigger than the letter paintings. Then I grabbed a glue stick and glued each painting to a red strip. Lastly for a little extra decoration I glued some pre cut squares of gift wrapping above the letters without covering ...

A Fun Way to Recycle Your Old Desk Calendar From Last Year

It’s fun to have a tear off desk calendar throughout the year because it gives you a different quote, trivia fact or Bible verse to look at everyday as well as a picture of some sort. But what are you supposed to do with the pages you have torn off already? They often just pile up on your desk or end up in a mess on the floor. Well today I am going to show you a fun way to recycle your old tear off calendar pages and create a beautiful collage with them. And the best part? You don’t have to be a great artist to do this project. It’s super easy and doesn’t require any professional art experience, just creativity and your old tear off calendar pages. So let’s get to it! What you will need: Old tear off calendar pages A piece of cardboard or thick paper Rubber cement or a glue stick Scissors Contact paper Stickers (optional) Hole punch (optional) Yarn for hanging (optional) Step 1: Cut your cardboard or paper to the size you want your collage to be. I actually us...

Galaxy Painting

For my first tutorial I am going to teach you how to do Galaxy Painting, my own style of painting that I invented this weekend! Materials you will need: Plain white paper White crayon Water color paint Tempera Paint Q tips A small cup of water Thick construction paper Glue stick Scissors Step 1: Cut your white paper anyway you want or leave as is Step 2: Draw on your white paper with your white crayon. This step may be a little difficult because you won’t really be able to see what you are drawing. I would recommend keeping it super simple by just drawing stars, the moon or anything you might see in outer space. You can also write your name as well. Stencils might also make this step easier if you have them on hand. Step 3: Grab your water color paint and paint the entire piece of white paper. You will magically be able to see your white crayon drawings. Use as many colors as you want to create a tie dye design. You can also add glitter while the paint is still wet but this is co...
