A Fun Way to Recycle Your Old Desk Calendar From Last Year

It’s fun to have a tear off desk calendar throughout the year because it gives you a different quote, trivia fact or Bible verse to look at everyday as well as a picture of some sort. But what are you supposed to do with the pages you have torn off already? They often just pile up on your desk or end up in a mess on the floor. Well today I am going to show you a fun way to recycle your old tear off calendar pages and create a beautiful collage with them. And the best part? You don’t have to be a great artist to do this project. It’s super easy and doesn’t require any professional art experience, just creativity and your old tear off calendar pages. So let’s get to it!

What you will need:

Old tear off calendar pages

A piece of cardboard or thick paper

Rubber cement or a glue stick

Scissors

Contact paper

Stickers (optional)

Hole punch (optional)

Yarn for hanging (optional)

Step 1: Cut your cardboard or paper to the size you want your collage to be. I actually used the square piece of cardboard from this year’s wall calendar for my collage. But you can use any piece of cardboard, poster board or thick paper you have on hand as long as it’s not too thin or it will get bent up when it dries and will be difficult to display.

Step 2: Cut out the pictures and quotes from your calendar pages.

Step 3: Rearrange your pictures and quotes on your cardboard or paper anyway you like. It is important to do this before glueing them down so you can rearrange them if needed. Overlapping is key. The idea is to cover the whole paper so there are no empty spaces. I also made a center piece for my collage with an old sticker label and markers but this is completely optional.

Step 4: Glue down your pictures and quotes on your cardboard or paper. I definitely recommend using rubber cement for cardboard because it sticks better but a bigger glue stick should work just as well. You could also paint a thin layer of Elmer’s glue on your cardboard with a paintbrush if that’s what you have on hand, just wash your paintbrush well when done.. But I wouldn’t squirt the glue directly from the bottle because it can get messy and the collage may not be completely flat when dry.

Step 5: This step is completely optional but if you have any decorative stickers on hand you can use those to decorate your collage as well. I actually got some faith based stickers for Christmas so they worked great for my Bible verse collage.

Step 6: This step is also optional. Once your collage is dry you can cut a piece of contact paper to the same size as your collage and stick it over top of it. This step isn’t entirely necessary but it doesn’t add a nice shine to your collage. Taping plastic wrap to your collage could also work if you don’t have contact paper. I also added a few stick on gems to the bottom after adding the content paper. But that’s optional too.

Step 7: Display your collage. I punched holes through the top corners of my collage with a hole punch and then put a piece of yarn through the holes and tape the ends of the yarn to the back so I could hang it on wall. You just need a nail or hook to hang it on. You can also put your collage in a frame before hanging or just display it on a shelf. Anyway you want to display it in your house will be great!

Happy New Year!

Creatively yours,

Colleen💕🎨

Christmas Version of Galaxy Painting

Here is a Christmas themed version of galaxy painting (see earlier posts)  that I did over the weekend. First I cut a piece of white paper into thick strips. Then I wrote my friends’ names on each strip in either green or red paint. The trick to this step is to take your time and form the letters slowly or else you won’t be able to read them. Next I took the opposite paint color and painted dots in the letters to make them look like wreaths. Again this step should not be done too quickly. I then took a Q tip, dipped it in various shades of light blue paint and dabbed it around the letters to create snowflakes. After I finished painting I let it all dry overnight. The next day I took some red construction paper and cut into strips slightly bigger than the letter paintings. Then I grabbed a glue stick and glued each painting to a red strip. Lastly for a little extra decoration I glued some pre cut squares of gift wrapping above the letters without covering ...

Galaxy Painting

For my first tutorial I am going to teach you how to do Galaxy Painting, my own style of painting that I invented this weekend! Materials you will need: Plain white paper White crayon Water color paint Tempera Paint Q tips A small cup of water Thick construction paper Glue stick Scissors Step 1: Cut your white paper anyway you want or leave as is Step 2: Draw on your white paper with your white crayon. This step may be a little difficult because you won’t really be able to see what you are drawing. I would recommend keeping it super simple by just drawing stars, the moon or anything you might see in outer space. You can also write your name as well. Stencils might also make this step easier if you have them on hand. Step 3: Grab your water color paint and paint the entire piece of white paper. You will magically be able to see your white crayon drawings. Use as many colors as you want to create a tie dye design. You can also add glitter while the paint is still wet but this is co...
